Meet Mei Xian, Partner Services & Support Intern, from ZALORA Malaysia 14 Apr 2023

Hello! I’m Mei Xian, and I've always been fascinated by the e-commerce industry and the way it's changing the way people shop. I'm particularly interested in keeping up with the latest trends and developments in the industry, which I believe is crucial to staying competitive and providing customers with the best possible experience. Outside of work, I enjoy shopping and exploring different retail environments. I also find that watching movies and singing karaoke are great ways to relieve stress and recharge my batteries!

I was motivated to apply to ZALORA because I was drawn to the company's reputation as a leading e-commerce platform in the region. I have always been interested in the e-commerce industry and was particularly impressed by ZALORA's commitment to providing a seamless shopping experience for its customers.

As a Partner Services and Support Intern at ZALORA, my typical day involves a range of tasks and responsibilities that focus on ensuring the best possible experience for our marketplace sellers. This includes:

  • Handling seller inquiries and issues through our ticketing system and email, and providing prompt and effective solutions to their problems.
  • Responding to queries related to seller requests and issues regarding ZALORA Production Services (ZPS), ensuring that our sellers have a positive experience when working with ZALORA.
  • Supporting the ZALORA Production Services (ZPS) Team Lead in coordinating with regional production teams to ensure that our sellers receive the best possible service and support.
  • Working closely with the team leader and Seller Help Desk to master ZALORA's seller operating system, Seller Centre, and using this knowledge to provide effective solutions to seller inquiries and issues.
  • Preparing excel sheets for our seller database, ensuring that all seller information is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Communicating effectively with other departments within ZALORA to ensure that seller requests and issues are fulfilled and investigated, and that our sellers have the best possible experience when working with ZALORA.

Overall, my role as a Partner Services and Support Intern at ZALORA involves a mix of technical and interpersonal skills, and requires a strong focus on customer service and attention to detail. I'm proud to work for a company that is dedicated to providing the best possible experience for our sellers, and I'm excited to continue learning and growing within the e-commerce industry.

In my time here, I have enjoyed the challenge of my role as a Partner Services and Support Intern, which involves problem-solving and finding solutions to complex issues. Being able to help sellers resolve their problems and provide them with a positive experience is very fulfilling. Additionally, I appreciate the opportunities for learning and growth that ZALORA provides me with. The company invests in the development of its employees, offering training programs and opportunities for career advancement. Knowing that I'm gaining new skills and experiences that will help me in my future career is another source of fulfillment for me. 


Being part of the team at ZALORA, I have seen how the company is very flexible and accommodating towards its employees. As an intern, I've been able to balance my work and personal commitments without feeling stressed or overwhelmed. The people here are very friendly and inclusive as well. Most of my colleagues are within the same age group, which has allowed us to communicate effectively and build a strong working relationship. They always invite me to join group activities and never leave me out alone, making me feel like a valued member of the team. Thirdly, I appreciate the training opportunities provided by ZALORA. Even as an intern, I have access to the training programs that have allowed me to quickly understand how the company works and develop my skills. Fourthly, my supervisor has been incredibly supportive and helpful throughout my internship. He's always available to answer my queries, lend me a hand, and solve any issues that I may encounter. 

I would describe the work environment at Zalora as dynamic, fast-paced, and collaborative. The company operates in a rapidly evolving industry, which requires its employees to be adaptable and constantly learning. However, despite the fast-paced nature of the work, the company also values work-life balance and ensures that employees have the necessary resources and support to manage their workload. Moreover, the team is very friendly and supportive, and colleagues often work together to achieve common goals. Overall, I would say that the work environment at Zalora is challenging yet rewarding, and provides ample opportunities for personal and professional growth.

ZALORA also provides flexibility in my work in a number of ways. Firstly, the company offers flexible working hours, which allows me to avoid traffic and utilize my time efficiently. Additionally, ZALORA has implemented a work-from-home policy, which has been very helpful especially during the pandemic. I appreciate the flexibility provided to us, as it enables us to maintain a healthy work-life balance while still contributing to the success of the company.

I have learned a multitude of skills and gained valuable insights into the e-commerce industry here. One of the most significant skills I developed was communication. As a Partner Services and Support Intern, I interacted with customers daily, handling their queries and issues. Through these interactions, I learned how to communicate with customers professionally and respectfully, making sure they feel heard and understood. In addition, I gained experience in working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, which helped me develop my time management and prioritization skills. I also learned how to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, understanding the importance of clear and effective communication. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to learn about ZALORA's operating system, Seller Centre, which gave me an in-depth understanding of how the platform works and how it supports sellers. This knowledge helped me provide better support to customers and develop a broader perspective on the e-commerce industry. Overall, my time at ZALORA has been a valuable learning experience, allowing me to develop both technical and interpersonal skills while gaining a deeper understanding of the e-commerce industry.

One of the most memorable experiences I had at ZALORA was during my first week of work, when our team had a team-building activity. While I was initially nervous, I quickly realised that the team was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We went to Mudtrekker Paintball Park, where we were divided into groups and competed against each other in a game of paintball. It was a great opportunity for us to bond and get to know each other better. Overall, the team-building activity was a great way to kick off my time at ZALORA and helped me to feel more comfortable and connected to my colleagues.

Another memorable experience that I had at ZALORA was attending the warehouse tour. It was fascinating to see the entire flow of how ZALORA's warehouse and logistics operations work, from inbound and outbound logistics to storage management. During the tour, I had the opportunity to see how different departments and teams collaborate and work together to manage inventory, handle orders, and ensure that products are delivered to customers in the best possible condition. It was an excellent way to learn more about the inner workings of the company and to appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes into every order fulfilled.

If you ask me, my advice to a new intern joining ZALORA would be to step out of your comfort zone, enjoy every moment and take advantage of the opportunities to learn and grow.
