As a commercial intern, I help sellers create promotion modules in the back end system of ZALORA, such as the mechanics or vouchers they want to set during the campaign. I also support the marketplace account executive team based in Malaysia, conduct market research and voucher testing, and assist executives in monitoring and driving the growth of brands. I have also helped plan, propose, and execute the implementation of 11.11 and 12.12 campaigns, and assist with the respective internal and external marketing communications.
Here at ZALORA, everyone is open to feedback, is friendly and patient, to the point where I’m still able to connect meaningfully with them, even when I work remotely. The work environment here is no doubt positive, and it’s a truly conducive place for interns to dive deeper into the e-commerce industry, especially with helpful colleagues and managers around.
In my time here, I was able to learn new skills such as product marketing, price matching, communicating with international sellers, and generating a mechanic or voucher for a seller/brand. I have also learnt to be more independent in my work as ZALORA allows me that autonomy, and as a result I take more initiative and hone my communication skills.
I came across the internship opening on ZALORA’s website, and being one of the most successful and popular companies in the e-commerce industry, as well as the leading brand for online fashion, beauty, and lifestyle shopping, I felt motivated to apply for the role as I wanted to experience working in such an established company.
If I could give some advice to new interns joining ZALORA, I would say to learn as much as you can during your internship, and communicate with your manager on your interests so we can help you focus on and strengthen your skills. Always be organized, manage your time wisely, and don’t hesitate to ask questions - we’re very friendly :) It’s also important to frame any mistakes as learning opportunities, especially in a fast-paced environment where you’ll be learning every day.
