Hey I’m Khai Lyn -  I’m a Social Media Intern in ZALORA Singapore. A little about me, I’m a fun, creative person with a love for photography and street dance. I’m exploring the world of social media marketing here where I get to combine my interests with professional growth. I chose ZALORA to gain experience and exposure in the e-commerce industry.

How did you find out about the internship at ZALORA?

What is a day in your life like?
It depends on the activities and tasks I have lined up, but a typical day starts with breakfast at the pantry without fail LOL - then I’ll spend my morning clearing the everyday but important tasks (e.g. checking emails, google chat and my daily to-do list). My afternoons are a blur - eat, hustle and repeat till the day ends (with breaks in between of course!).

On our monthly main shoot days, we come into the office earlier than usual to prepare, from the camera setup to the outfits, everything is ready when our talent for the day arrives. Then, I dive into creating content — filming quick reels, editing photos, choosing the right audio, or brainstorming captions.

What do you find most meaningful about your job?
I really enjoy editing the graphic and video content ;D It's an outlet for me to brainstorm new ideas and allows me to practice my creativity!

What do you like most about being part of the team at ZALORA?
I like the work culture here in ZALORA, everybody is chill, with lots of collaboration and creativity flowing around. Whether we’re working on campaigns or just chatting over lunch, there’s always this vibe that makes you feel energised. Sometimes the HR team also plans activities for the company like parties and small events that perk up the energy and give a great break from the everyday hustle. I also like the office view haha

What’s work flexibility like in ZALORA?
I really like the hybrid work arrangement! I can work at my own pace and at different places (e.g. cafes, home) besides in the office. Sometimes being in a different environment gives me new perspectives and ideas, which makes working more productive for me!

Has ZALORA provided you with opportunities to grow?
Yuh~ As a Social Media Intern, I get the opportunity to attend events such as Next In Vogue 2024, PR invites from brands to shoot social media content. As an ambivert, this internship has pushed me out of my comfort zone to be more social and opened my eyes in this industry.

What did you learn from your time in ZALORA?
Picked up interpersonal skills such as communication, team work, problem solving and adaptability skills while brainstorming content ideas with the team and on set shooting with talents

What is a memorable experience you’ve had at ZALORA?
Besides my in-office days with my team members, definitely the Marketing team’s year end summit in Kuala Lumpur with the ZALORA Social Media and Public Relations team :D

It was an insightful experience because I got the chance to voice out my own thoughts, listen to the room thoughtful ideas and opinions for the upcoming year and mingle with other colleagues from the KL/HK office :D

What advice would you give to a new intern in ZALORA?
Just go in with an open mind and you will be fine :)
