Joey Chan, Public Relations and Social Media Intern 18 Sep 2025

Hi I’m Joey, I was a Public Relations and Social Media (PRSM) Intern in ZALORA! Today I’d like to share my experience working in ZALORA Singapore!

What made you decide to apply for an internship in ZALORA?
I wanted to try a regional role and experience what it is like working at an MNC, so I applied on LinkedIn.

What does a PRSM internship look like?
As a PRSM intern, I created loads of content for our global accounts, such as Facebook, YouTube, and X. I’ll also create content and plan a social media calendar for the team across all our markets, especially for our mega sale campaigns like our annual flagship sale, ZALORA Birthday!

Besides planning content for our existing channels, we are encouraged to explore other channels. During my internship, I was also given the opportunity to explore XiaoHongShu (XHS) for Singapore’s market (which I’m super proud of) and try out PR campaigns for the Singapore team! Oh we also get to attend events that invite ZALORA (I really enjoyed the Pixi event we were invited to)!

What does a day in life at ZALORA entail?
It depends on what we’re doing each day in the PRSM team! On normal office days, I start by getting a drink from the pantry before diving into my tasks and meetings. If it’s a shoot day, then we will prep stuff and go for the shoot. When there’s an event or shoot, my team and I will need to order and unpack our loaned fashion apparels and steam them for our team of influencers to wear!

Does ZALORA provide flexibility at work?
Yes! ZALORA provides a Work From Home (WFH) arrangement. At home, I feel extra-productive because I can concentrate on routine tasks and keep focused. WFH days also make me enjoy office days more, because I get to meet up with the team and catch up in-person.

How would you describe the work environment?
Definitely friendly, everyone is very cooperative and team-oriented. It was easy to integrate into my team at the start, and get along well with the other teams that share the space during our office days. I enjoy lunch time alot :) Besides the daily routine, we also have team bonding meals or activities like pottery-making that really makes a difference in building a team culture!

What is a memorable experience you’ve had at ZALORA?
Too many to count! We’ve been to so many different events; Raya SG event, New Balance X ZALORA pickleball event, Pixi event, team bonding and lunches too!

Can you share the support and opportunities you’ve experienced in ZALORA?
Yes, my boss is very supportive! She checks in with me from time-to-time and clarifies if I have anything I want to explore. When I said I wanted to explore more Public Relations (PR) and Key Opinion Leader (KOL) work, she gave me the chance to work with the Singapore PR team and to take on seeding and paid campaigns. My boss is also very willing to teach and share her knowledge with me, giving me quality advice as well.

What did you learn from your time in ZALORA?
During my time in ZALORA, I learnt and developed skills in the area of Public Relations and Social Media. PR-related skills that I developed include communicating with KOLs, negotiating for campaigns, how to approach/PR seeding works. On the Social Media side, I gained a regional outlook for SM (like How to coordinate different markets’ socials during mega sale period, trying out XHS, the chinese social media platform, different content and concept).

What did you find most meaningful or fulfilling in ZALORA?
Speaking from the heart, a smooth workflow and having a good relationship with my team, executing and planning events, finishing the mega sale campaign period give me satisfaction. Also, if a certain piece of content does well on the platforms, I will naturally have a sense of achievement. I also appreciate it when my boss and colleagues validate and recognise my efforts.

What advice would you give to a new intern in ZALORA?
Don’t be scared to take on a task that you’ve never tried before, explore what you’re interested in trying. New challenges will give you new experiences and knowledge, you can also dare yourself to see how far you can go/stretch yourself!
