What’s something a lot of people don’t know about your job?
As a ZALORA Advertising Platform (ZAP) Brand Partnerships Intern, my team and I work closely with our commercial team to help brands elevate their marketing presence on ZALORA. Working in tandem with brands at every step of their marketing journey, we tailor marketing plans based on their needs, connect them with the right customers online, analyse their performance on our platform, and adjust their advertising plans as needed.
How do you find meaning and fulfillment in your work?
Of course! It’s so satisfying to see the results of my work. Whenever I see a brand’s ad live on the ZALORA app, I feel proud that my team had a hand in connecting them with customers.
What do you like most about being part of the team at ZALORA?
The team at ZALORA is very nurturing, where people do care and take time out of their day to teach us skills and knowledge which I am super appreciative of!
How would you describe the work environment of ZALORA?
The work environment of ZALORA is very supportive and fun. I've met so many great people from the ZAP team and people in the Singapore office. It's easy to strike up conversations and friendships between departments, like the social media team, the corporate communications team, the commercial team, and so on!
How does ZALORA provide flexibility in your work?
As an intern, I find that ZALORA takes a very modern approach to hybrid working. It believes in and trusts its people to be productive in their chosen place, be it at the office, home, or even at a cafe. With 3 days of work from home, we have the choice to change our scenery to inspire and refresh ourselves to continue performing to the best of our abilities.
The 2 days of working from the office are more for our team to get together to work in-person on tasks that would be more effectively taken care of together! I like going back to meet friends in the office, and it helps that the office has a beautiful view overlooking the city!
Has ZALORA provided you with opportunities and supported you in the knowledge of the world of work?
Yes! My team and manager are very supportive when it comes to developing us and are willing to give opportunities for us to grow!
What did you learn from your time in ZALORA?
I learnt a couple of things during my internship in ZALORA. This includes communication skills, where I hosted webinars and led calls with external brands. Negotiation skills when I discussed with clients their partnership plans with us. I also gained digital marketing knowledge during my time working with ZALORA through my everyday work.
How did you find out about the internship at ZALORA?
I found out about the role through LinkedIn! It came out on my feed as a suggestion and I took the chance to apply! No regrets cause I learnt so much and met so many people!
What motivated you to apply to ZALORA?
Three reasons really. First, I wanted to explore a new field like eCommerce, and ZALORA was a great opportunity to start at. Second, I’m a ZALORA customer after all, so it made me curious what goes on behind the scenes. Third, I really like working in a beautiful environment with nice views and plentiful sunlight!
What is a memorable experience you’ve had at ZALORA?
I have a ton of memorable experiences in ZALORA, and all of them are precious to me. But my favourites are the lunches with my team and the special moments outside the office with them, like during CSR activities when we get to do something outside of the usual every day work!
My favourite CSR activity was distributing oranges to the elderly during Chinese New Year cause besides doing something new with my team and friends from other departments, it felt meaningful to contribute back to the wider Singaporean community!
What advice would you give to a new intern in ZALORA?
I think the number one advice that comes to mind is: don’t be scared of asking questions, people here are so friendly and willing to help if you ask for it. I know it can be scary at first to approach strangers but you never know, you might actually become friends with them! And also, be curious to learn, because there’s so much to learn both about work and about life!
